Espacio Cubo

The Espacio Cubo is a self-sustaining music cooperative located in the state of Matto Grosso in Brazil. The cooperative has been able to self-finance the production and distribution of its recordings. The Espacio Cubo has created its own “currency” to intermediate exchanges among the participants. Basically, the coop organizes parties and concerts to raise funds. The funds are invested in the coop and depending on one’s contribution, one can get “credits” that can be exchanged for studio time, production time, or other resources. In addition, the coop helps the musicians to distribute and market their music. The parties themselves, organized by the coop, work as a marketing tool for the music produced by the members of the coop.
