Fading Ways
Fading Ways Records Canada & Fading Ways Music UK
Fading Ways is a traditional indie label who believes that file-sharing does NOT harm sales, but rather can help make indie artists better known. Our Share sampler series is one of our primary means of promotion. We have assembled street-teams around the world to help spread the Share samplers. Fading Ways has also sold several albums under a CC licenses. We believe file-sharing is cultural exchange and can be described as a human right.
Fading Ways Music UK was started in 2004. Our primary product is Music CDs.
The sale of these CDs in hard copy and digital downloads provides our main source of income; some revenue is generated through licensing and publishing income from certain artists on our roster.
Fading Ways is a traditional indie label who believes that file-sharing does NOT harm sales, but rather can help make indie artists better known. Our Share sampler series, licensed under CC’s Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike licenses, is one of our primary means of promotion. We have assembled street-teams around the world to help spread the Share samplers, online, via p2p, as well as in physical CDR form. Fading Ways has also sold several albums under a CC licenses. We believe file-sharing is cultural exchange and that the recent lawsuits against file-sharers can be more accurately described as a human right violation, although obviously there are other more grave ones being committed by our governments these days.
We believe that open licensing is an effective model. Time will tell whose customers are still around when after the major label’s lawsuits have run their full course : )
A pitfall of open licensing is that some kids may decide to keep just the mp3’s or ogg’s and not buy the albums. That is their freedom, their right, and their decision. But they’ll still come to shows and buy a t-shirt if they like the music.
We strongly recommendations that other firms adopt this model.
Have no fear. Change is here.
We need a global organization uniting CC record labels, and possibly a new rights society for digital music for artists who own their own publishing and do not wish to involve themselves with present PROs… get in touch, and let’s get organized!

I will not call it organisation. It could be a kind of web service, where most of the clearance is done by computer. Lets people be creative and computers calculative
