Music DVD´s in Brazil
Music Dvd´s in Brazil
This is an open business model taking place in numerous states in Brazil, including the poorest. A market for music DVDs is quickly emerging in the peripheries. Producers all over the country have developed a method of recording live concerts by local bands and selling DVDs of the performances through alternative distribution networks. These bands are predominantly playing different types of music, depending on the region, such as Forro or Funk Carioca (aka Baile Funk), all popular dance rhythms in Brazil.
The interesting thing about the emerging music DVDs industry in the peripheries is that the DVD’s are sold throughout networks of street vendors. Moreover, recent data indicates that the music DVDs of locally produced content are selling better than pirated DVDs and CD’s. Much like the emergence of the Nigerian movie industry, the DVD industry in Brazil indicates that autonomous audiovisual industries of locally produced content can emerge and actually compete with and supplant piracy.
