Top of Web 2.0 Software in 2005
Dion Hinchcliffe, whose analysis blog is part of the Web 2.0 Workgroup circle, has compiled a list of the top Web 2.0 Software of 2005. It is an astonishing list of activity of companies hoping to prove themselves with business models that are different from Web “1.0″ in order to avoid its bubble.

Well, that’s indeed cool. The crucial question, however, is how are these business models different? Maybe its a question of reach and attention; and, of course, one of timing. Look at Skype’s approach: zero expenditure on marketing, a user base of more than 100 million in two years, incoming revenue is minimal, but its being sold for 3 billion US$. Yet, the baffled economist might ask: where is the revenue coming from? One thing that is clearly different from the past is that you need to give lots of free stuff away in order to get something close to “communities of scale” (as opposed to economies of scale), which are big enough to create direct or indirect demands for value added services…….
