Search Creative Commons Pictures on Flickr

logo.jpg FlickrStorm is a new search tool for Flickr that lets you find more relevant

photos and collect them in an easier way. And not only that you can also search for Creative Commons content. The service was developed by a good friend of OpenBusiness (thanks Gregor) and is a brilliant example of the motivations behind “Open Projects”. The service is great, does not have any revenue model and was built, because he and himself wanted to see a better search tool for Flickr. Why? Because they thought it needs to be done. Could this be turned into a business? Maybe. But this depends a lot on how they want to develop the project. But surely if the technology behinde the site is useful then at least the development team can find ways to monetize their knowledge.
Flickrstorm uses some special processing to look for more than you enter into its search box as it finds images by association — for example, a search for “cold” will not just look for that word but also for “winter, snow, blue, ice, …” and other related concepts.
You can narrow your search to photos with a Creative Commons license and you can collect the photos you find in a tray where you can download them all at once.
