Tailor the Music
Today we continue our series of having ‘open entrepreneurs’ as guest bloggers with JamesĀ Peel one of the founders of Tailored Music. If you want a customized love song they seem to be your service of choice.
He says ‘the best way to think about Tailored Music is through the parallels it has with many open source business models’.
He goes on and explains ‘Typically, the money is made by providing services. We’re similar to a web development shop that gets paid to customize an open source codebase. Unlike other music companies, we want the value to be in the services (short, well-defined jobs) rather than in the product (CD/download sales). According to Chris Anderson’s Long Tail blog, 2006 was the worst year for hit albums since 1990. We believe the selling-copies-of-copyable-data business model will continue to die, and we’re offering an alternative for working musicians. Our goal is to have 100′s of musicians each making a middle-class income by providing custom recording services.’
James will be writing for a week and be available for questions…..
