Hello Jess, to answer your question look at the today post --> http://www.openbusiness.cc/2007/01/24/discover-a-crowdsourcing-initiative-crowdspirit-part-iii/. Basically, manufacturers are deeply involved in the very early stage of the product design. These partners, which are able to provide Customer like us with both design and manufacturing capabilities, are called ODM as Orignal Design Manufacturer in the electronic world.
Hope it answer your question.
best regards

I like the concept too that you can bring user experiences closer to R&D, and put R&D into the hands of consumers as designers. But the proecss seems to miss the manufacture stage - how do you bring manufacturers into it to embrace your designs?

Hello Christian, thanks a lot for your comment. To answer you question, I'd like to propose you to wait until wednesday in order to get further details on my post : "How is it possible to Crowdsource electronic products and to produce good quality products ?". If it's still unclear, please do ask me again your question on wednesday and I will answer it without any problem.
Thanks a lot
