At izimi we are debating a new feature which extends our “instantly share anything with anyone” theme to mobile devices – and I’d welcome some input on one question in particular. First let me explain the background and the new feature to put the question into context…
Today izimi lets you “instantly share anything with anyone”, i.e. with a few mouse clicks you can share any file with anyone on the web and they just need a web browser, no special software. The next version (mid-end June) improves the ‘instant’ aspect by letting you do multiple files at once and reduces the number of clicks to, quite literally, one.

But here is the rub…
That’s great for stuff that’s created on the computer (e.g. docs, graphics, code, etc) because you can literally instantly share them. But for media that’s created elsewhere (e.g. photos, audio, video) there is still the step of getting that media onto the computer in the first place – it’s instant once you get it on the computer, but it’s a faff to get it there from the device where it was created in the first place.

So, I got to thinking, izimi is really about shortening the time it takes to get from creation to consumption (of any digital asset), so for media that’s created on mobile devices we need to eliminate the step of getting it first to the computer. Bring on new feature ‘instant sharing from your mobile device’. I know that’s not new because YouTube, Flickr and others have introduced it already but it does seem like a natural and essential progression.

The question is, should we use MMS or email to enable this? We have our views on the merits of each approach, but what does this audience think?
