School of Everything Launched
Last Friday at Minibar we launched the public UK alpha of School of Everything, a Young Foundation-backed site that connects people who want to teach with people interested in learning.
By creating an online marketplace for face-to-face learning we want to make life easier for existing freelance teachers to find students and vice versa, while also encouraging peer learning and helping people who might not normally think of themselves as teachers to share their knowledge with interested people.
The idea for School of Everything came from the 1960′s Free-U and the ideas of Ivan Illich; we’re founded on the principle that ‘Everyone has something to teach, and everyone has something to learn’.
At the moment, we offer teachers the chance to create profiles and be contacted by interested learners. As the site grows, we’re planning for a reputation/endorsement system, and tools to enable teachers to take online bookings for a small transaction fee.
After an intense Seedcamp week early in September, and Pete’s hard work to get us ready to go live last Friday, it’s a great feeling to be finally out there. There’s still masses to do, but we’re getting lots of friendly and helpful feedback, and I’m enjoying watching the site grow. So come visit, and tell us what you think…
