Service/product description

Next to the The Facebook Developer wiki, in which users can upload any comments, suggestions etc regarding the Facebook platform Facebook now aso developed Facebook Connect. Facebook Connect is a powerful set of APIs for developers that lets users bring their identity and connections everywhere. You can build rich integrations that help make the Web more social with Facebook Connect, or that provide a social experience right on Facebook. Users can now create and share their selfdeveloped applications on the Facebook platform and therefore become part of it’s brand.

What does 'openness' mean in this case?

The wiki, Facebook developed isn’t really seen as being open, especially since you as a user can’t change/add anything yourself. Facebook collects all input and decide what to do with it themself. The Facebook Connect on the other hand is seen as being more open. Facebook made available a framwork for users to develop applications in. You upload them onto the platform – Facebook screens all new entries – and publishes the once that have been approved. It’s not completely open – you still have to work within certain boundries and facebook still screens everything, but you can develop and add new things to the platform which makes you become part of the development and experience of the side.
