Minibar IC tomorrow App Building Contest – The Outcome
Minibar are very happy to announce that the overall winners of the Minibar IC tomorrow App Building Contest to be David Harvey and Simon Phillips of Tools of Directing. We would like to extend congratulations to both them and our runner-up Robin Jewsbury of Eyemags who received prizes of £5,000 and £2,000 respectively for their stellar contributions presented at our final event held at Skills Matter on 22nd January 2011.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the contest including our panel of judges – Chris Jackson (Metabroadcast), Craig Smith (O’Reilly), Matt Sansam (TSB), Mark Williment (TSB) and Steve Price (TSB) – who provided their time and expertise and helped make the day a success.
Winners: David Harvey and Simon Phillips, Tools of Directing
David and Simon presented their app for toolsofdirecting.com, a tool that enables people working with film to make the hidden story woven into scenes by the director through the editing process more visible, revealing how he or she has shaped narrative strategies and so exerted creative control over the story.
In the creative viewer a user can track when a character changes, how they change, what changes and where and when change happens. The user experience in the viewer is very different from an audience member, because they access the true picture of what was actually captured with the camera, using it to produce quick and effective trailers or as an education tool to explore the work in greater depth.
Runner-up: Robin Jewsbury, EyeMags
Robin presented an entirely different sort of tool, his company EyeMags provides a public app ‘factory’ enabling anyone with little to no technical knowledge to create their own apps from their gathered content. They are unique in that they work with all mobile phones; supporting Java phones, popular touch phones, iPhones and now even the iPad. For the contest Robin integrated the EyeMags technology with the IC tomorrow platform so that consumers can create their own apps from the content provided within the secure IC tomorrow environment.
IC tomorrow will be running a further series of events over the coming months to develop the beta version of the platform and cultivate strong links between content providers and the developer community. If you would like to get involved please join up to the IC tomorrow _Connect group to receive all further notifications.
