Things we Do
We love to make projects run smoothly for our clients. We help to develop web and business strategies and organise some of the most useful web and technology events and workshops in the UK. Knowing the brightest people in the web and digital industries and working with them means we are always up to date and can bring in top-level advice for our clients.
The OpenBusiness Approach
OpenBusiness makes big ideas work by being small. This means low overheads for us and fair prices for you! OpenBusiness is a small and flexible team of highly experienced project managers and consultants working with start ups and big companies alike.
What that means
We work with clients ranging from start-ups to big companies and government bodies, for whom we provide the following services:
- Community creation & development
- Strategy development
- Event management
- Business Insight & advice
Events and Communities
Next to consultancy and organising conferences OpenBusiness also brings people together. We organise and catalyse networks and communities around innovative events. Some events we organise are:

Minibar
MiniBar, is a growing community of over 2500 web entrepreneurs, developers, designers and other digital workers who are key to London’s web and tech industry. Once a month we meet face to face, network, discuss and listen to presentations, by upcoming start-ups, or thought leaders in the field. The Guardian just summarized MiniBar as an ‘overdose of brilliant ideas‘ recommending that “Gordon Brown should send down one of his minions (to learn where all the new jobs should come from”. Sponsors of the event have ranged from Paypal, to BBC, Microsoft, Mozilla/Firefox, SUN, digital agencies such as LBi and start ups such as Cloudmade.

Silicon Hackney
Silicon Hackney was organised for people to meet locals who earn their living from the Internet in and around Hackney. Create useful contact and a lasting network with other Hackney internet enthusiasts and new media artists.
A place for people of all disciplines to get together and discuss new and emerging trends in our field.
Upcoming:
Open Hardware Camp
In December with 40Fires and Nesta we are organising a conference on the emerging field of ‘Open Hardware’. The event will focus on collaborative strategies and challenges of making things the open source way. For more information on the conference please go here.
What we have done
Please find below some examples of projects we have done before.

WeBank
In partnership with NESTA we developed an events and research series on peer-enabled financial innovation, which in light of the financial crisis asked “Can we bank together and replace institutions?’. We brought together finance innovators such as Zopa, Wonga and innovation executives from big banks to discuss the future of online enabled commerce. A report summarizes the findings.
SIX (Social Innovation Exchange)
For the Young Foundation we conceptualized, designed and built a social media platform to harness the power of a global community of social innovators.
